CARE OF YOUR CUSTOM OR PATCHWORK QUILT
You've put a lot of time and careful consideration, not to mention expense, to acquire your Butterfly Quilt Company quilt. You want to care for your investment so that it will last a lifetime, to be handed down and used not only by your children, but hopefully also by their children.
You may spot clean with cold water for small areas. If necessary, you may also use a mild detergent such as Era or Cheer. Be sure, if you use a detergent, to rinse well. Dry only after spot has been thoroughly removed. Drying will leave any spot residue making it harder to remove.
Butterfly Quilt Company, however, recommends for larger cleaning to take to your local dry cleaners and have them clean your quilt for you. It is not very expensive and will help your quilt last much longer.
Do not store in plastic. Place acid-free tissue paper between all folds as you fold your quilt for storage. Then wrap in acid-free tissue paper. Store in an acid-free sturdy box. Do not add mothballs or other items as they could damage your quilt.
If you wish to display your quilt as a mural or wall hanging, you can have a special sleeve attachment added to the quilt that a rod or dowel can be threaded through. This will preserve the integrity of the quilt itself.
Remember, just use your common sense. If your quilt is dragged around the floor or taken outdoors for use, you must expect it to become damaged or stained. Under those circumstances, it is almost impossible to bring a quilt back to its original state.
